2004/5 Season Review Aug-Oct

On the pitch Swindon had mixed results starting with a 2-1 defeat away to Wrexham, and then a 3-2 home defeat to Luton. Results then picked up with 4 wins in a row, at home to Milton Keynes Dons 2-1, away to Bristol City 2-1, away to Rushden in the Carling Cup 1-0, and beating Hartlepool 3-0.

In September Swindon lost 1-0 away to Leeds United in the second round of the Carling Cup, after playing the Yorkshire side for the second time in a year. Swindon finished the month with a 1-0 home win over Bradford City.

October started with 3-3 draw against Stockport after Swindon ahd gone 3-0 up, only for Stockport to get 3 late goals. Swindon then had a fairly good month beating Oldham 1-0, losing 1-0 at Port Vale, drawing 2-2 away to Barnsley, beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 at home after being 2-0 down with only 12 minutes to go thanks to late goals from Howard, Parkin and Fallon. October finished with more goals with a 3-3 home draw against Torquay.

Off the pitch Swindon signed Steve Book on a free transfer from Cheltenham Town in August, and Darius Henderson joined on a successful loan from Gillingham. Andy Gurney left Swindon during September to join League Two side Swansea City in a surprise move, being replaced by Paul Mitchell who joined on loan from Wigan. Jamie McMaster also came on loan for a month from Leeds United.

Sam Parkin was being linked with a move to Cardiff, but luckly this didn't come to anything. Mark Yeates had a one month loan spell at the club from Spurs, and Ian Woan rejoined Swindon, but not as a player instead as a youth team coach.

Christian Roberts joined the club in October from local rivals Bristol City for £50,000 but after a good start suffered some injury problems and hasn't scored since November. Iffy Onoura also rejoined the club as a youth team coach.
